25 year anniversary of operations on behalf of the UN | Open doors SWISSINT

This year, the Swiss Armed Forces look back on 25 years of service for the UN. Since their first missions in Namibia and the Western Sahara, the Swiss Armed Forces have extended and established their international engagement in peace support. Together with the canton of Nidwalden the Armed Forces International Command SWISSINT, which is in charge of operational implementation of the armed forces’ peace support mission, is opening the doors of its military training area to the public to provide insight into the history of peace-keeping.

  • Where: barracks Wil in Stans Oberdorf

The attractions on the programme include a Swiss Air Force Super Puma, which will demonstrate its capabilities in the air and will be available for inspection on the ground.

Armed Forces operations in support of the 2014 OSCE Ministerial Council Meeting

Switzerland is chairing the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe OSCE in 2014, and is therefore responsible for the organisation of the annual meeting of the Ministerial Council, which will be held in Basel on 4 and 5 December.

As extensive security measures are required during the meeting, the Federal Council and Parliament have approved an armed forces civil support operation. For a maximum of eight days, up to 5,000 Armed Forces personnel will assist the civilian authorities in ensuring the security of the conference.

24 Tigers Pay Tribute to the Triple Jubilee at AIR14

07.09.2014 - The AIR14 was concluded with 24 F-5 Tigers of the Swiss Air Force forming the number “100” in Payerne’s sky. Almost 400’000 people helped make the air show a great success, celebrating 100 years of Swiss military aviation, 50 years of Patrouille Suisse and 25 years of PC-7 TEAM.

100 years of the Swiss Air Force – The official centenary book ‘UNO ZERO ZERO’ marking this jubilee.

The centenary book with the motto “stories – not history” is devoted to the following topics:

  • The Air Force today and yesterday
  • All operational aircraft and helicopters captured in photographs over the most beautiful areas of Switzerland
  • Full colour technical drawings of aircraft and other assets used from 1914 to 2014
