The Aeromedical Institute is the Swiss centre of competence for medical and psychological assessment of men and women with regard to security and performance in military aviation, transport and management.

For the air force the AMI examines pilots and parascouts, prospective General Staff course applicants as well as special unit members.

For the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications the AMI carries out aptitude tests and fitness examinations of pilots and air traffic controllers according to internationally valid standards (JAR-FCL 3).

It is Switzerland's aeromedical centre in accordance with the guidelines of the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA).
