The Aeromedical Institute runs the Aeromedical Centre (AMC) according to the relevant instructions of the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA)
.
The focus is on the task of examining applicants for and holders of private pilot's licences.
As instructed by the Aeromedical Section (AMS) the AMC also carries out special tasks such as assessments.
Aeromedical examinations are based on the JAR-FCL 3 (Joint Aviation Requirements - Flight crew licensing, Medical
).
The preliminary examination of professional pilot candidates is carried out by the AMC only.
Preliminary examinations of private pilot candidates and the periodical examination of pilots of all aviation categories can be carried out by the AMC or an aeromedical examiner.

You are interested in training as a professional civilian pilot (CPL / ATPL). For this you require a preliminary medical check-up (Class 1 Medical), which should be carried out at the AMC. In this PDF file you will find some important information such as examination procedure and costs.
Important information regarding your first examination
Medical Class 1
Prior to your examination at our institute, you must register with an ophthalmological expert
of the FOCA (Federal Office of Civilian Aviation) for a preliminary ophthalmological examination.
Provided that the ophthalmological examination was positive, you may make an appointment for an examination at the Institute for Flight Medicine, telephone number
+41 44 823 25 19 (approx time required: 2 hours).
Please bring a valid means of identification with photograph with you, and also the examination report from the preliminary ophthalmological examination.
The preliminary examination costs approx. CHF. 500.- but may also exceed this sum – should additional tests be required.
