After it had been called off for meteorological reasons on the previous day - the Swiss Air Force was able to perform its traditional live fire event at the Axalp-Ebenfluh air force firing range on Thursday 11 October 2012 in bright sunshine.
The purpose of the Axalp live fire event is to demonstrate to the public the capabilities and operational options of the Swiss Air Force in an Alpine environment. F/A-18 Hornet, F-5 Tiger II and PC-21 aircraft as well as Super Puma, Cougar und EC635 helicopters were involved in the event.
The Saab Gripen F Demonstrator was also presented for the first time in Switzerland at the Axalp. Thousands were thus able to survey the Swedish combat aircraft at close quarters.
